After 2 consecutive rainouts, the Boundary Bass Club held another tournament today. It was chilly this morning, but it was awesome to get back on the water.
There were 8 boats and 12 anglers who launched from Pungo Ferry this morning. David Dozier and Richard Hall came to the scales with an amazing 15.30 pounds, 5 pounds ahead of second place. They put on a clinic today. Richard had todays big fish, a 5.42 pound hog. Second place went to Andy Morath and Wayne Hayes. They had 10.07 pounds. Rick Plemons finished third with 9.16. Congrats to Dave and Richard on their win. Check out the gallery to see how everyone else finished today. Thanks to everyone who came out. I’d also like to thank Jim Leavis and Wayne Hayes for helping at the weigh in. We are going to try and squeeze one more tournament in before the season ends, stay tuned for updates.

We finally got a semi warm day with sunny skies for the Boundary Bass Club tournament that launched from Pungo Ferry this morning. Unfortunately, there was one slight issue, the wind. We had steady winds of 20 mph with gusts that felt like 50 mph. That didn’t stop the 6 boats and 10 anglers from taking off anyway. The water was dirty, the levels were high and the bite was tough. Did I mention there was a little bit of wind as well? I spent quite a bit of time trying to pull crank baits out of branches. Of the 6 boats there were only 2 limits. One of those limits belonged to the team Wayne Hayes and Andy Morath. They came back with a weight of 9.21 pounds, which was good enough take first. Wayne also caught todays big fish which weighed 2.90 pounds. This was just enough to edge out Rick Plemons who had 5 fish for 8.91 pounds. His big fish weighed 2.87 pounds. I’d like to thank Rusty Girard and Wayne Hayes for helping at the weigh in. Our next tournament is going to be on the 28 of January. (Weather permitting) Thanks to everyone who came out, hope to see you at the next one.
We had a beautiful day today on the river. It was a bit chilly and the wind was consistent, but it really was a nice day. The fish enjoyed it as well. We had 9 boats launch this morning from Munden Point.
The team of Andy Morath and Aaron Leigh showed up to weigh in with 13.73 pounds. Their big fish was 3.66 pounds. Coming in second with a 5 fish limit weighing 9.77 pounds was Wayne Hayes. His big fish weighed 2.67 pounds. Todays big Fish award went to Rick Plemons. His 5.42 pound kicker also was enough to put him in third place with a total of 9.70 pounds. There were several large fish brought to the scales. A 4.63 pound beauty was caught by Bob Clarkson. I heard rumors that you could hear the shouts of joy 2 creeks away. It really was a great day and a great turnout. I’d like to thank Mark Ingram and Randall Clark for helping with the weigh in. Our next tournament is going to be on January 14th. We will launch from Pungo Ferry. We are aiming to be on the Pasquotank for the 2nd tournaments in January. Hope to see you at the next one The wind was howling and the temperature had dropped when blast off time came for the Boundary Bass Clubs Tournament on the North Landing today. That didn’t stop the 8 boats and 13 anglers who launched from Munden Point this morning. It might not have been the most comfortable conditions, but it didn’t seem to bother the fish.
Everyone caught fish today (not all the right species) and the weights were tight. At the end of the day, it was the team of Paul Celentano and Pierre Han who took home the win. They finished with 12.11 pounds and Pierre had todays big fish (4.66 pounds). Finishing 2nd was the team of David Dozier and Richard Hall with 11.72 pounds. Thanks to everyone who came out, it was another great tournament. I’d like to thank Tim Clark and Bob Clarkson for helping at the weigh in. Our next tournament is going to be on December 10th on the Pasquotank . We’re going to launch from Elizabeth City. Hope to see you there. You could not have asked for a prettier day to have a bass tournament. The 12 boats and 19 anglers took off in what I would call ideal conditions. The North River was showing off today. Air temp was 55 degrees at blast off and not a cloud in the sky. By the end of the day it was near 70. Water temp was about 60 degrees.
Unfortunately for most this did not mean big catches and heavy sacks. It turned out to be a day of short fish and cookie cutters. The majority of the conversation at weigh in was about who caught the biggest trout or red fish. Most of the field finished in the 7-9 pound range. There was one notable exception. The team of Tommy DeWitt and matt Greschak figured them out. They brought 13.36 pounds to the scales. Matt also caught todays big fish a 4.2 pound beauty. Joe Glazebrook and Jeremy Gatewood finished second with 10.69 pounds. I would like to thank Mark London and Jim Leavis for helping at the weigh in and Mark Ingram who was the weigh master. Well it was a bit windy when the 10 boats launched Saturday morning. That did not improve throughout the day. Munden point is a great place to launch from, but it offers no cover the wind, looked like a washing machine at the ramp.
When all was said and done, it was Mark London who came to the scales with the winning bag. His five fish limit of 12.50 pounds was just enough to edge out the team of Rob Peppers and Mike McCluskey who had 5 fish for 11.68 pounds. Claiming the big fish was Bob Clarkson, who had a nice 3.75 pound beauty. Andy Morath and Aaron Leigh finished third with 10.02 pounds. It was a great start for to the season. I’d like to thank Tim Clark for helping set up and at the weigh in. I’d also like to thank Mark Ingram for running the scales and helping the guys load their boats, not easy in those conditions. Our next tournament is going to be on Sunday November 5th. We will be on the North River and launch from Waterlily. These are open tournaments, help spread the word. Hope to see you then . |
